South Ossetia Mosque Carpet
South Ossetia is a region located in the southern part of the Caucasus. In the region, the art of weaving mosque carpets is a traditional handicraft, but the number of mosques in the region is quite limited. The art of weaving mosque carpets in South Ossetia is done in a style similar to carpets in other parts of Central Asia and the Caucasus. Mosque carpets in South Ossetia are usually made of wool yarn. Carpets are usually in dark colors and decorated with geometric patterns and figures. Traditional South Ossetian rugs are often referred to as "Kazbegi" and "Mokhevi" styles. Carpets in these styles include dark geometric shapes and many elements of symmetry. Also, the frame around the edges of the rugs often includes floral motifs. Since the number of mosques in South Ossetia is very limited, the art of weaving mosque carpets is also practiced in a limited way. However, mosque carpets in the region are highly appreciated in terms of quality and aesthetics.
